Micro Wedding Music

COVID has had a huge impact on the Wedding Industry and in turn, is affecting trends and perhaps some of these are actually helping couples make different decisions.

There is a desire to enhance the intimacy of the day and reduce wedding costs and the rise of the ‘Micro Wedding’ has increased. More couples are opting for celebrations with smaller guest lists because of COVID but also because it fits in with the rise of elopements and smaller weddings.

You can still customise your Micro Wedding by hiring a musician and if your wedding is small, a Solo Violin is the perfect choice in creating a magical atmosphere. A solo violinist will also provide safe distancing, is very mobile, eco friendly and needs very little room!

“Sue played at our wedding and we cannot recommend her highly enough. Sue was extremely accommodating in rearranging the date and times due to Covid. Everyone was amazed at how Sue transformed the atmosphere with her beautiful playing! She’s an amazing and talented lad! Thank you again, X” Nicole

Choosing a Wedding Violinist

Choosing a Wedding Violinist Cornwall

Choosing a Wedding Violinist

A solo violin will provide your wedding with the perfect soundtrack that you can remember for a lifetime.

What styles of music can a violinist play?

Violinists are normally classically trained. Ideally, a solo violinist can also play in a variety of styles, such as Pop, Rock, Jazz, Folk, Soundtracks etc. Their classical music training will have given them the skills to be able to play any type of music to professional quality.

I play on an acoustic violin that requires no additional equipment. Being acoustic also fits in with the trend for Green and Eco themed weddings. The sound will naturally blend into your wedding when required and will not overpower the natural conversation from your guests. A solo violin is also very mobile and can move to any location as they need so little room!

How To Choose Music For Your Wedding Ceremony

How to choose music for your wedding ceremonyThe wedding music you choose for your ceremony sets the scene for your big day. Will your wedding day be formal, traditional or more laid back and casual?  I can help you pick the right songs for the different parts of the wedding ceremony. The right songs will create an atmosphere that reflects your personality and style.

So much energy goes into choosing the flowers, cake, wedding dress, food and venue that the wedding ceremony music timeline can get left until last. We specialise in creating a playlist that is as unique as you are so we do not force established songs on you if there is a special song or songs that you would rather have. Arranging songs can take time so it is important to give this some thought.  We can meet via a video call to discuss the songs you might like to use.

Can I use any music?

Some wedding celebrants and venues have a strict guideline on what music can be used, Religious music cannot, for instance, be used in venues which have a civil wedding license.

What song will be our special song?

If the words are a very important part of the music you might want to book our String Quarter with a vocalist, however, if the melody is strong enough and you feel that the lyrics would detract from your wedding ceremony then our arrangments for String Quartet, Trio, Duo or solo violin would be perfect.

You will need music for four parts of your Wedding Ceremony

Part One As the guests assemble and are seated: We usually play a selection of popular music and classics from our repertoire, this can be chosen by you as your guests are taking their seats and waiting for the wedding ceremony to begin.

Part Two The Procession: We will switch to a new song as the Bride arrives. This song will last as long as it takes for the bride to reach the front of the room, so there is no need to worry!

Part Three The Signing of the Register: At this point, we play two or three pieces of music to play as the registers are signed.

Part Four The Recessional: We play upbeat joyful and lively music to conclude the wedding ceremony as the bride and groom process out of the room.

Love Will Find A Way

Cornwall string quartet

We may have been quiet on here but behind the scenes, we have been busy moving all our affected wedding bookings to future dates. We have also been looking at what we can do during this period of staying home. Some of these ideas include virtual weddings where I can turn up via a video link.
We are also arranging and recording lots of new music and starting our first unique composition for a couple based on their initials and interests.

Also, expect a lot more videos to help bring some positivity into these challenging times. My composer account Sue Aston Music will also be joining in.

Wedding Tips For Brides – Walking Down The Aisle

Wedding Tips For Brides - Music for your wedding

One of the questions I get asked the most, is how do I walk down the aisle to the music? What happens if I get there too soon, or if the music finishes before I arrive?
You have nothing to worry about! The music fits around you. We play the music until you are in position, and then naturally fade and stop. This is one of the advantages of using live musicians instead of a CD. The music fits in with you and your guests, just like the opening of the most romantic film ever made. Our job is to make your nerves fade away as you walk down the aisle in your own time.

I love the popular trends of Rustic and Bohemian Weddings. It makes me feel very much at home with my background of composing music inspired by nature and the natural landscape.
Many of the weddings I play at that follow this theme are like scenes from an enchanted book with braids, greenery and beautiful wildflowers.
This setting works exceptionally well for the solo violin, with the single melodies weaving in out of the sounds of the guests and natural birdsong. It is also eco-friendly as I need no electricity and the music blends in so well with the magic of the wedding day.

Every Wedding Is As Unique As The Bride & Groom Getting Married

cornwall violinist sue aston Being Being booked to play at a wedding is never just a job, it is not just about playing a few songs.
A wedding day is charged full of emotions, many of them full of love and joy.
However, they can also be tinged with sadness if a family member, such as a parent, has passed away. Sometimes the music I play represents someone’s memory, and this can become a poignant moment during the ceremony.

For the couple booking me, this is their one special day, and I am always aware of how honoured I feel to be part of this.

On the wedding day, not everyone may see me, but I am aware that each note will be weaving amongst the conversations and creating memories that will last a lifetime. During the wedding ceremony, I time the music to fit in with each step the bride takes, being aware of the emotions and love filling the room in which the wedding is taking place.

Every wedding is as unique as the bride and groom getting married.
