Wedding Tips For Brides – Walking Down The Aisle

Wedding Tips For Brides - Music for your wedding

One of the questions I get asked the most, is how do I walk down the aisle to the music? What happens if I get there too soon, or if the music finishes before I arrive?
You have nothing to worry about! The music fits around you. We play the music until you are in position, and then naturally fade and stop. This is one of the advantages of using live musicians instead of a CD. The music fits in with you and your guests, just like the opening of the most romantic film ever made. Our job is to make your nerves fade away as you walk down the aisle in your own time.

Thanks to the fabulous @elizabeth_melvin_photography for the gorgeous photo!

I love the popular trends of Rustic and Bohemian Weddings. It makes me feel very much at home with my background of composing music inspired by nature and the natural landscape.
Many of the weddings I play at that follow this theme are like scenes from an enchanted book with braids, greenery and beautiful wildflowers.
This setting works exceptionally well for the solo violin, with the single melodies weaving in out of the sounds of the guests and natural birdsong. It is also eco-friendly as I need no electricity and the music blends in so well with the magic of the wedding day.

Every Wedding Is As Unique As The Bride & Groom Getting Married

cornwall violinist sue aston Being Being booked to play at a wedding is never just a job, it is not just about playing a few songs.
A wedding day is charged full of emotions, many of them full of love and joy.
However, they can also be tinged with sadness if a family member, such as a parent, has passed away. Sometimes the music I play represents someone’s memory, and this can become a poignant moment during the ceremony.

For the couple booking me, this is their one special day, and I am always aware of how honoured I feel to be part of this.

On the wedding day, not everyone may see me, but I am aware that each note will be weaving amongst the conversations and creating memories that will last a lifetime. During the wedding ceremony, I time the music to fit in with each step the bride takes, being aware of the emotions and love filling the room in which the wedding is taking place.

Every wedding is as unique as the bride and groom getting married.

Wedding Tips – Reassurance For You

As the wedding date approaches it’s reassuring to know that all the music for your ceremony is arranged properly and that all the plans are in place.
I am always available to chat to before the big day so that you don’t experience any unnecessary stress to add to any pre-wedding nerves!

I always send out an email one month before your wedding day detailing the running order of the music for your ceremony, checking the timings, and I often chat to Brides on messenger to help reassure that every aspect of the music is taken care of.

Wedding Music Trends 2020

wedding music trends 2020

We are predicting that movie & TV soundtracks are going to continue to grow as the main theme for wedding entertainment in 2020.
The Greatest Showman has been very popular this year and I expect other songs from the film to be requested next year.

Heart Strings and Wedding Rings

As a professional musician when you play in a wedding ceremony you are not just creating music.

You are changing the atmosphere of the room that music is played in. You are helping to join together the thoughts and emotions of all the wedding guests in that room.

The music played in the ceremony helps tell the story, a story about love, commitment and being together. So whenever you hear that music again, you are transported back to that magical time…

Surprise Special Music Arrangements!

String Trio Cornwall

It’s always such a pleasure to receive a special request for a wedding or event, and create a bespoke music arrangement for us to perform to make a special occasion even more memorable and personal.

Quite often we are approached by a Bride or Groom, and, although they have already chosen a special piece of music to be arranged together, it is such a thrill to arrange a piece of music which will be a complete surprise for their partner.

This could happen during the Signing of the Register, for the couple to both walk out to, or even towards the end of the drinks reception! We were recently asked to play a special song for a Bride, so that the Groom could ask her to dance to it, just before they were due to go in for the wedding breakfast.  We all were so excited that this was a secret request, and the anticipation really mounted up during the drinks reception. We looked out for a nod and a wink from the Groom, who led his Bride over, and we played the Bride’s favourite song for her…

It was such an emotional experience, and very intimate, as the guests were still enjoying their drinks, and the happy couple shared the moment together as we played for them. We are very discrete, and love keeping a secret, so I shall divulge no more!

Choosing Music for your Wedding Ceremony – Making your Entry

Choosing music for your wedding

How do you go about choosing music for your wedding ceremony? This can seem a rather daunting task! At Classical Strings, we have over twenty years of experience in providing music for weddings, so we are always on hand to give advice and help to create a bespoke soundtrack for your special day.

Music to make your Entry to – this piece of music ideally needs to have a good steady beat for you to walk in time to – nothing too fast or slow – so that you can calmly walk down the aisle with ease! The timeless classic – ‘Pachelbel’s Kanon’ is a favourite choice. The Classical Strings Trio recently performed this at the wedding of David and Sam at Watergate Bay Hotel. This traditional piece combines an uplifting melody, with a strong bass line and is a great choice for walking in to – not to worry about timing the length of the music either – we are very experienced at fading out the music and bringing it to a conclusion when you have reached your position.

Our Quartet played for the wedding ceremony of Sera and Francesca at The Green in Liskeard, and this was most definitely a team effort! Our two brides are both professional musicians themselves, having performed with their band for the Royal Wedding of William and Kate at Hyde Park! Their vision was to have us perform the Entry music – ‘A Thousand Years’ alongside their Bridesmaids who would be singing, and some family and friends who would be playing guitar. We arranged the music for us all to play together – and it really was fantastic!

Having a special piece of film music to make your Entry to can make the ceremony very personal and special too. The Classical Strings Quartet performed a special arrangement of ‘When Ginny Kissed Harry’ from the film ‘Harry Potter and the Half – Blood Prince’ for the wedding of Natasha and Gary at Cornish Tipi Weddings recently. This was a very romantic piece of music, with a good steady beat for the Bride to make her Entry to – set against the magical backdrop of the woods, this created a very memorable moment.

Opting for a special arrangement for your Entry music can really make a statement for your wedding ceremony. One of our recent Brides, Claire, wanted an all classical programme, apart from a bespoke arrangement of ‘Dragostea Din Tei’ which was a Romanian folk song made famous in the 1990s by the band ‘Ozone’. This sounded really effective at the start of the ceremony at St Mawes Castle, and created a real personal touch for the ceremony.

We have so many special arrangements coming up – including a mash up of ‘Here Comes the Bride’ with the song ‘A Thousand Years’! Anything is possible…watch this space!

Your own special arrangement will make your day memorable!

Here at Classical Strings, we have many new special music arrangements in the pipeline! Having your favourite song or piece of music arranged for strings not only adds a touch of class to your wedding or event, but adds a sprinkling of magic to make your day so memorable…

You don’t have to have your special arrangement performed just during the ceremony either. A bride, whose wedding we played at last month at The Alverton, opted for her favourite song – ‘Tale as Old as Time’, from Beauty and the Beast to be performed by the Classical Strings Trio as soon as she arrived with her groom at the hotel after her ceremony. Here’s a clip of the Trio playing her special arrangement:

Another lovely idea, was to have the bride and groom’s favourite song arranged to be played for their first dance back at the hotel as the celebrations began. Here’s a clip of the Classical Strings Duo playing ‘Just the Two of Us’ by Bill Withers, which we went on to play later that day at The Godolphin Arms, Marazion:

There really are so many ways you can incorporate music into your special day. Please call me, Sue, on 01736 719342, or visit our website for more information.

All our String Ensembles are a Hit!

string quartet cornwall

Here at Classical Strings, we can cater for all your string ensemble requirements, and all our groups are equally busy again this year!

The Classical Strings Duo recently performed for a ceremony at The Bedruthan Hotel, at the Lanai – a gorgeous room overlooking the sea, which felt as though it was an extension of the beach!

The Bride chose ‘Pachelbel’s Kanon’ for her Entry, and ‘Rule the World’, ‘Come What May’, followed by the haunting Irish melody ‘Carolan’s Air’ completed a varied musical choice for the Signing of the Register. The Bride and Groom walked out together to a special arrangement of the upbeat song ‘Crossfire’ by Brandon Flowers.

We received fabulous praise from the guests, as well as great feedback from the staff at The Bedruthan Hotel on Twitter:

Amazing & memorable entertainment ladies. Was a joy to have you perform in our beautiful Lanai space.

The Eden Project was the setting for a wedding the other week with The Classical Strings Quartet. Again, this was a varied programme as requested by the Groom, and there was plenty of music to keep the guests entertained during the ceremony and also for the drinks reception afterwards.

The Groom opted for two special arrangements – the gorgeous ‘Clair de Lune’ by Debussy as a surprise for the Entry of the Bride, as well as the popular Beatles classic ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’. Another personal touch was having the entire wedding party sing along to my arrangement of  ‘Stand By Me’ during the ceremony. It’s always such a pleasure to help create special musical memories during a wedding or event.

Trevenna is a unique barn wedding venue, set in the heart of the countryside at St Neot. The Classical Strings Trio performed here for a stylish outdoor ceremony, as well as for the drinks reception which followed.

The Bride opted for two special arrangements – ‘Rather Be’ by Clean Bandit – which was performed as the guests took to their seats before the ceremony, followed by ‘I’m Kissing You’ by Des’ree from the film Romeo and Juliet as the Bride made her Entry. This was a very romantic start to the proceedings, and the two contrasting pieces worked really well together.

During the Signing of the Register we performed ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz, followed by ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars. The Bride and Groom walked out to ‘All You need is Love’ by the Beatles.

Next day, the Bride gave us a some lovely feedback:

You were all amazing yesterday, thank you so much for being part of our day. We had so many compliments on the lovely atmosphere you created and the ceremony music was beautiful!

It really is such a pleasure to be part of a special day, and create lasting musical memories which will last a lifetime.
