How To Choose Music For Your Wedding Ceremony

How to choose music for your wedding ceremonyThe wedding music you choose for your ceremony sets the scene for your big day. Will your wedding day be formal, traditional or more laid back and casual?  I can help you pick the right songs for the different parts of the wedding ceremony. The right songs will create an atmosphere that reflects your personality and style.

So much energy goes into choosing the flowers, cake, wedding dress, food and venue that the wedding ceremony music timeline can get left until last. We specialise in creating a playlist that is as unique as you are so we do not force established songs on you if there is a special song or songs that you would rather have. Arranging songs can take time so it is important to give this some thought.  We can meet via a video call to discuss the songs you might like to use.

Can I use any music?

Some wedding celebrants and venues have a strict guideline on what music can be used, Religious music cannot, for instance, be used in venues which have a civil wedding license.

What song will be our special song?

If the words are a very important part of the music you might want to book our String Quarter with a vocalist, however, if the melody is strong enough and you feel that the lyrics would detract from your wedding ceremony then our arrangments for String Quartet, Trio, Duo or solo violin would be perfect.

You will need music for four parts of your Wedding Ceremony

Part One As the guests assemble and are seated: We usually play a selection of popular music and classics from our repertoire, this can be chosen by you as your guests are taking their seats and waiting for the wedding ceremony to begin.

Part Two The Procession: We will switch to a new song as the Bride arrives. This song will last as long as it takes for the bride to reach the front of the room, so there is no need to worry!

Part Three The Signing of the Register: At this point, we play two or three pieces of music to play as the registers are signed.

Part Four The Recessional: We play upbeat joyful and lively music to conclude the wedding ceremony as the bride and groom process out of the room.

Love Will Find A Way

Cornwall string quartet

We may have been quiet on here but behind the scenes, we have been busy moving all our affected wedding bookings to future dates. We have also been looking at what we can do during this period of staying home. Some of these ideas include virtual weddings where I can turn up via a video link.
We are also arranging and recording lots of new music and starting our first unique composition for a couple based on their initials and interests.

Also, expect a lot more videos to help bring some positivity into these challenging times. My composer account Sue Aston Music will also be joining in.

Solo Violin at Polhawn Fort Cornwall

It was such a pleasure to play Solo Violin at Polhawn Fort, for the wedding of Aimee and Callum. This is such a stunning venue to play at, and perfect for a winter wedding too, as the fairy lights, candles, and sumptuous flowers create a magical and cosy atmosphere! The acoustics are fantastic at the Fort too, and it is wonderful to hear the music from my violin fill the room.

The Bride made her Entry to a beautiful love song which I arranged for Solo Violin – ‘Yours’ by Ella Henderson. During the Signing of the Register, the lovely couple chose ‘Hedwig’s Theme’, from Harry Potter, and ‘Time of your Life’ by Green Day. Aimee chose the joyful and uplifting ‘Under the Sea’, from My Little Mermaid for the newlyweds to make their Exit to.

During the drinks reception, I played a selection of my arrangements of Rock, Pop and Film music, and I was delighted to receive a wonderful testimonial from Aimee:

Sue was incredible her music made us smile and fill our hearts with wonderful memories!

She was professional from start to finish and I only wished I could have adsorbed and spent more time with her as I was amazed by the music filling up the room.

It was very important to me that I had sue there playing on our special day, and I’m so glad I did. That was a little something special for me to have and hold within myself, music is everything, music is emotion and I felt it with sue playing.

The talent this woman has and her incredible attitude hand in hand makes her the best woman for the job.

Don’t ever hesitate on booking this lady because I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Sue complimented our wedding day and we were honoured to have her play for us.

Thank you so much, Aimee & Callum

Wedding Tips For Brides – Walking Down The Aisle

Wedding Tips For Brides - Music for your wedding

One of the questions I get asked the most, is how do I walk down the aisle to the music? What happens if I get there too soon, or if the music finishes before I arrive?
You have nothing to worry about! The music fits around you. We play the music until you are in position, and then naturally fade and stop. This is one of the advantages of using live musicians instead of a CD. The music fits in with you and your guests, just like the opening of the most romantic film ever made. Our job is to make your nerves fade away as you walk down the aisle in your own time.

Thanks to the fabulous @elizabeth_melvin_photography for the gorgeous photo!

BoHo Weddings Cornwall

I love the popular trends of Rustic and Bohemian Weddings. It makes me feel very much at home with my background of composing music inspired by nature and the natural landscape.
Many of the weddings I play at that follow this theme are like scenes from an enchanted book with braids, greenery and beautiful wildflowers.
This setting works exceptionally well for the solo violin, with the single melodies weaving in out of the sounds of the guests and natural birdsong. It is also eco-friendly as I need no electricity and the music blends in so well with the magic of the wedding day.

The version of the song on our YouTube Channel and Soundcloud has had 1000’s of views and we have had many requests for an official recording. It has also been a hit with all the other weddings we have played at in 2018/19 I have tried to capture the raw and rhythmic quality of the music which reflects life in Birmingham.

The official release date will be Friday, January 3rd 2020 across Spotify, Apple Music, Google, Amazon, Tidal and many more…

Every Wedding Is As Unique As The Bride & Groom Getting Married

cornwall violinist sue aston Being Being booked to play at a wedding is never just a job, it is not just about playing a few songs.
A wedding day is charged full of emotions, many of them full of love and joy.
However, they can also be tinged with sadness if a family member, such as a parent, has passed away. Sometimes the music I play represents someone’s memory, and this can become a poignant moment during the ceremony.

For the couple booking me, this is their one special day, and I am always aware of how honoured I feel to be part of this.

On the wedding day, not everyone may see me, but I am aware that each note will be weaving amongst the conversations and creating memories that will last a lifetime. During the wedding ceremony, I time the music to fit in with each step the bride takes, being aware of the emotions and love filling the room in which the wedding is taking place.

Every wedding is as unique as the bride and groom getting married.
